BROOKER GIVEN NEW DEAL

Harlequins Chris Brooker has been handed a new contract till 2013. The 24-year-old, who moved to The Stoop from Bath in 2007, has made 56 appearances for the Londoners.

Brooker is the latest English-qualified young front rower to re-sign for Quins after Joe Marler and James Johnston also recently agreed new contracts.

“I am really happy to have re-signed for Quins,” he said. “This is a team that has so much potential, and a great team spirit.”

QUINS WIN

Harlequins rugby union secured a fantastic win against the London wasps. After visiting winger Richard Haughton had quickly cancelled out home prop Joe Marler’s early try, full-back Mark van Gisbergen’s conversion put Wasps ahead.

But quick tries from full-back Mike Brown and England number eight Nick Easter sent Quins in 17-7 at the break.

And the only second-half score was a penalty from Wasps’ Dave Walder.

Just four days before national manager Martin Johnson names his Six Nations squad, England attack coach Brian Smith saw both Marler, the 20-year-old prop called up to the England training camp as injury cover during the autumn internationals, and Easter get on the scoresheet.
